Download or print
Download a print-ready PDF (A4 or Letter), a PNG (about 300 DPI) or an SVG to edit in another app, or print directly from the browser.
Choosing a page layout
A grid (6 or 9 equal panels) reads at a steady, predictable pace, good for dialogue-heavy scenes or your first few pages while you get comfortable. A splash panel or a varied layout slows the reader down and draws the eye to whatever fills the biggest panel, use it for an establishing shot, a reveal, or a big hit.
A 3-tier page (three full-width panels) is the easiest layout to pace an action beat across, since each row can be a single clear moment.
Panel order and reading direction
Left-to-right, top-to-bottom reading order holds for every layout here except one: swap it for right-to-left if you are laying out a manga-style page meant to be read that way. Keep panel shapes distinct enough that the reading order is never ambiguous, especially on the varied layout.
FAQ
What size paper does this print on?
A4 and Letter are both supported. Pick the one that matches your printer in the paper size dropdown.
How do I plan a comic panel layout?
Start from the beat of the scene: an even grid for steady dialogue, a wide panel for an establishing shot, a splash panel for a reveal. Keep the reading order obvious, then use the template here to print the layout you chose.
What is a splash panel?
A splash panel is one large panel, usually at the top or filling most of a page, used for a dramatic reveal, an establishing shot, or a big action moment.
Can I use the cover template for an actual book cover?
Yes, it has a dashed title area at the top and one large panel below for the cover art.
PDF, PNG or SVG, which should I download?
PDF to print on A4 or Letter paper. PNG if you plan to draw digitally in a raster app like Procreate or Photoshop. SVG if you want to edit the layout itself in Illustrator, Inkscape, or Figma.
Is my drawing or image uploaded anywhere?
No. The template is generated and exported entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server.
Can I get AI to draw the comic instead of drawing it myself?
Yes, koma.ink writes a script and draws every panel from a one-line idea. Try the idea box below.
