How to use the template maker
- 1
Pick a panel layout
Choose 3, 4, 6, 8, or 10 panels, the vertical yonkoma layout, or multiple strips on one sheet.
- 2
Adjust the paper and spacing
Switch between A4 and Letter, and set the border thickness and gutter size to match how you draw.
- 3
Add a title or name lines (optional)
Type a title to print across the top, and turn on the Name / Date / Title lines if this is going home as a classroom handout.
- 4
Download or print
Download a print-ready PDF (A4 or Letter), a PNG (about 300 DPI) or an SVG to edit in another app, or print directly from the browser.
Planning a 4-panel strip
A 4-panel strip works best with a simple beat: setup, build, turn, payoff. Panel 1 establishes where you are and who is there, panel 2 raises the stakes, panel 3 escalates it, and panel 4 lands the joke or the point.
Leave the last panel the least busy visually, whatever punchline you are going for reads better with fewer distractions around it.
- Panel 1: setup
- Panel 2: build
- Panel 3: turn
- Panel 4: payoff
Picking a gutter and border size
A wider gutter (the gap between panels) gives inked art more room to breathe and makes it easier to cut strips apart when you print several on one sheet. A thinner border reads better at small sizes; a thicker one holds up better once it is scanned or printed.
FAQ
What size paper does this print on?
A4 and Letter are both supported, for the PDF download and for printing. Pick the one that matches your printer in the paper size dropdown.
Can I download the comic strip template as a PDF?
Yes. Choose 3, 4, 6 or 8 panels (or 10, or the vertical yonkoma), pick A4 or Letter, optionally type a title, and press Download PDF. It is made in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
Can I use this for a classroom assignment?
Yes. Turn on the Name / Date / Title lines option and print as many copies as you need.
What is a yonkoma?
A yonkoma is a four-panel comic strip read top to bottom instead of left to right, a format common in Japanese newspaper comics.
PDF, PNG or SVG, which should I download?
PDF to print on A4 or Letter paper. PNG if you plan to draw digitally in a raster app like Procreate or Photoshop. SVG if you want to edit the layout itself in Illustrator, Inkscape, or Figma.
Is my drawing or image uploaded anywhere?
No. The template is generated and exported entirely in your browser, nothing is sent to a server.
Can I get AI to draw the comic instead of drawing it myself?
Yes, koma.ink writes a script and draws every panel from a one-line idea. Try the idea box below.
